Upham’s Community Care (UCC) welcomes community health physician Dr. Marjorie Janvier as its new Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Janvier received a Bachelor of Science in healthcare management and policy and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. She obtained her Medical and Master of Public Health degrees from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency and chief residency at Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and an Infectious Diseases Fellowship at The Miriam Hospital/ Brown University.
During her residency, Dr. Janvier discovered a passion for community health and commitment to providing HIV positive patients with quality, integrated health care.
“The way that patients open up about their greatest hopes for themselves and their fears is very intimate. It is a great responsibility to understand these and to provide guidance.”
In 2015, Dr. Janvier joined the Adult Medicine staff at The Dimock Community Health Center where she provided primary and HIV specialty care for over 800 patients. During her eight years at Dimock, Dr. Janvier held several leadership positions, including Director of Care Management, Medical Residency Director and Clinical Director of Adult Medicine. In recognition of her community dedication and leadership, she was named a Roxbury Hometown Hero in 2021.
As Upham’s new CMO, Dr. Janvier is looking forward to working closely with the leadership team to advance UCC to the next phase of providing quality care. She is committed to ensuring that staff feel fully supported on a daily basis.
A community physician at her core, being involved in community health care on a larger scale motivated Dr. Janvier to accept the CMO position.
“As a physician you take care of your patients one on one. You ensure that each patient you come into contact with has a good experience and receives quality care. As a CMO, it’s your responsibility to take care of a larger group of patients by creating policies and systems to maintain the quality of care and by supervising the health center’s clinical leaders.
Originally from Queens, the opportunity to serve the local Boston community impacts Dr. Janvier on a personal level.
“I grew up in a neighborhood that looks just like this in New York. When I see patients walk through the door, I see my mother, I see my sister, and I see my family members.”
Dr. Janvier hopes that Upham’s Community Care continues to be a sanctuary of support for the Dorchester community, helping families in good and bad times.
“Each person who walks through the door is trying to do their best on a daily basis. They’re trying to take care of themselves, take care of their families, and put food on the table. There is so much to be respected about that daily struggle. We all do it with joy, but some days are harder than others. Hopefully, when they come to UCC, it’s a place that makes life a little bit easier.”
Dr. Janvier currently resides in Roxbury, MA with her family.
