Kinnari Chitalia, Senior Nutritionist was recently awarded the WIC Excellence Award from the State WIC Office. The award was established to honor the dedication, passion, and professionalism required of all positions within local WIC programs. Kinnari started working for WIC 8 years ago as a nutritionist and was promoted in 2017 as Senior Nutritionist.
Her knowledge and passion for nutrition along with her dedication to WIC recipients is evident.
Kinnari took on the role of acting director during the interim when the health center was hiring a new director. During those months, she managed all aspects of the Dorchester North Mattapan WIC office, transformed it physically, supervising staff members and still running her own programs She also played a big role in assisting the program to prepare for the local program evaluation that took place a couple of months after the new director was hired. Kinnari was instrumental in preparing for the nutrition standards and helping the new director with the other pieces of the evaluation.
Shortly after, the director went on maternity leave and once again Kinnari stepped in as interim director. During that time Kinnari took on all the tasks she had previously done plus participated in FY19 negotiations, followed up on the local program evaluation and moved the main WIC office to a new location.
Kinnari always goes above and beyond. She welcomed me and other new staff, she is tireless in her commitment to WIC and continues to demonstrate leadership and team-building skills. She has been a great contributor to the success of the WIC program. “Kinnari is a positive role model for staff and recipients. She notices others’ talents and likes to draw them out. She always sees the good in people. Her attitude is contagious.”
Upham’s Corner Health Center congratulates her on receiving this well-deserved honor.
